Area E is more than a place on a map. It is home to Sahtlam, Glenora, Cowichan Station, Koksilah Industrial Area, Eagle Heights, and Cowichan Tribes lands. It’s also home to my family and I.
Covering 13,483 hectares and home to 4,121 people as of the 2021 Census, Area E is a large and diverse rural area. It stretches from Copper Canyon to Lakeside Road, from the Trans Canada Highway to the Cowichan/Sahtlam Land District boundary. But what makes Area E special is not just its size. It is the people, farms, businesses, open land, rivers, trails, and strong sense of community..
This is where rural life still means something. Families build their lives here. People work the land here. Neighbours know each other here. Places like Bright Angel Park, Currie Park, Glenora Riverside Park, Wake Lake Nature Reserve, Cowichan River Provincial Park, the Cowichan Valley Trail, and the Cowichan River Footpath are part of what keeps Area E connected to the land.
Area E also has an important economic backbone. Koksilah Industrial Area and Eagle Heights strengthen our local tax base and help reduce the pressure that would otherwise fall more heavily on rural homes, farms, and families. That balance matters, and it needs to be protected.
